SYNERGYHolistic Wellness Spa

Murfreesboro, Tennessee

The whole is greater than the sum of us.

\ sin‑ər‑jē \ n.

The interaction of two or more forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.

Synergy is an alliance of independent holistic practitioners who chose to work under one roof, so that whatever you walk in carrying, someone here has spent a career on it.

An alliance, not a staff

Barbara Savage started this in 1994 with one conviction.

Early in her own massage career she saw what employment did to therapists. An independent practitioner can follow the work wherever it leads, build a practice around what she is actually good at, and answer to the person on the table. In an alliance with others, that freedom stops being a limit on what she can offer.

So Synergy opened in downtown Murfreesboro as a co-op of holistic healers, pooling a full spectrum of therapies so clients could find health in whatever way worked for them. In 2008 it moved into more than five thousand square feet on N.W. Broad Street, and the roster has been growing ever since.

It takes a community of people genuinely committed to their clients to point everyone in the right direction. That is what is in this building.

Who you will be seeing

Start with what you are carrying. We will show you who works on it.

Every practitioner here runs an independent practice, so you are choosing a specific person and the training behind them. Between them they cover close to every modality in holistic care.

What we practice

Ten disciplines, one address.

No referral, and no waiting to be handed along. A body that needs acupuncture this month may need lymphatic work the next, and nobody here will send you across town for it.

Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy

Twenty distinct modalities, from a classic Swedish hour to deep clinical bodywork for pain that has not moved in years.

Whether you come for pampering, for recovery, or because something hurts and will not stop, bodywork earns its place in your care. Stress sits behind a remarkable share of chronic pain and fatigue, and regular massage is one of the few things that reaches it directly.

Because every therapist here practices independently, you get to choose both the person and the technique, and to keep going back to the pair that works.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture

One of the oldest systems of healing in the world, practiced here by licensed acupuncturists who treat the underlying cause of your symptoms.

Ultra-thin needles, solid and hair-fine, are placed just under the skin to unblock the flow of chi along the body's meridians. They are not designed to cut, and most people feel very little as they go in.

Acupuncture is now recognized across mainstream American healthcare as a primary care profession, and it works well alongside the bodywork and nutrition practices under this roof.

Energy Healing

Energy Healing

Reiki, Healing Touch, Quantum Touch and Ohm-frequency sound healing, each carrying the particular flavor of the practitioner offering it.

Energy healing describes a family of subtle bodywork practices that can stand alone or layer into a massage session. Every method is as individual as the person facilitating it.

People come to it for inner peace, for rest that finally holds, for creative flow, and for the sense of being whole again after a long stretch of not being.

Reflexology

Reflexology

Pressure at mapped points on the hands, feet and ears that answer to the rest of the body. Deeply pleasurable, and quietly effective.

Archaeological evidence places reflexology in Egypt around 2330 BCE, in China by 2704 BCE, and in Japan by 690 CE. It keeps being rediscovered because it keeps working.

The feet and hands help set the tension level for the whole body, which makes them an unusually direct way to interrupt a stress signal and let everything reset.

Skin Care

Skin Care

Facials and body treatments built on a real analysis of your skin, chosen for what it is doing this month.

A treatment moves through cleansing, exfoliation, facial massage, steam and moisture, chosen around what your skin is actually doing right now.

Facials support the immune system, aid detoxification, reduce built-up fluid and relieve stress. Antioxidant treatments carry vitamins A and E to help clear pollutants from the body.

Detoxification

Detoxification

The IonCleanse footbath, a thirty-minute hydrotherapy session that draws stored waste out through the pores of the feet.

Even careful, health-conscious people carry a load from air, water, processed food and ordinary household chemicals. It settles in fat tissue and the liver and shows up as fatigue, mental fog and stubborn inflammation.

Ion cleansing is not suitable during pregnancy or lactation, after an organ transplant, or alongside certain heart, seizure and psychiatric medications. Your practitioner will talk this through with you first.

Low-Level Laser Therapy

Low-Level Laser Therapy

Painless, sterile, drug-free light therapy for pain syndromes, wounds, fractures and neurological conditions.

Also called cold laser, LLLT uses non-thermal photon energy that penetrates tissue without damaging cells, stimulating cellular function and speeding healing.

It has been studied and used clinically for more than thirty years. It suits anyone who needs a non-invasive option, or for whom conventional therapy has not worked.

Thermography

Thermography

Radiation-free digital infrared imaging, read by trained physicians. A screening you can have every year without a second thought.

DITI reads the body's own thermal response to pain, injury and dysfunction. It is safe, painless, non-invasive and completely free of radiation.

Used yearly, it measures the symmetry of heat patterns and tracks physiological change over time, which is what makes it valuable as early risk assessment for women and men alike.

Yoga

Private yoga therapy, one to one, with every sequence shaped around your own body.

The Sanskrit root of yoga means to yoke, to unite, to bring under control. Posture and breath together do more for strength and calm than almost anything else you can practice at home.

Working privately means the sequence bends to your knees, your shoulder, your pregnancy or your recovery, at whatever pace that takes.

Nutrition

Counseling and functional medicine support, so the work you do on the table is not undone at the table.

Nutrition counseling here is practical and specific to you, offered by practitioners who also see how your body is holding up week to week.

It pairs naturally with detoxification, acupuncture and regular bodywork.

The bodywork menu

Massage comes in twenty different forms.

Stress sits behind a startling share of chronic pain, poor health and plain exhaustion, and bodywork is one of the few things that reaches it directly. Which kind you need depends entirely on what is going on, so here is the whole list.

A therapist working across the upper back of a client on a treatment table

Cupping and gua sha are folded into your session at no additional charge when your therapist thinks they will help.

  • Swedish

Long gliding strokes, light to deep. The classic, and still the most versatile.

  • Deep Tissue

Slow strokes and friction across the grain to reach the fascia under the surface muscle.

  • Acupressure

Finger pressure at key points to release tension and move blood and qi.

  • CranioSacral Bodywork

A very light touch that releases restrictions around the central nervous system.

  • Chinese Fire Cupping

Heat and suction to irrigate the tissues. Added to your session at no extra charge.

  • Gua Sha

Gentle scraping that clears stagnation in the surface membrane. No extra charge.

  • Hot Stone Therapy

Heated basalt stones warm and open the muscle before hands ever work it.

  • LaStone Therapy

Hot and chilled stones in alternation. Only a certified LaStone therapist can perform it.

  • Infratonic Therapy

Low-frequency acoustic waves that move old fluid out of a painful area.

  • Lymphatic Drainage

Light rhythmic strokes that restart lymph flow and bring down swelling.

  • Lypossage

Targeted lymphatic work on areas of stalled fluid, lifting and firming tissue.

  • Myofascial Release

Sustained pressure into fascial restriction to give movement back.

  • Neuromuscular Therapy

Trigger point work that traces a pain pattern back to whatever is causing it.

  • Trigger Point Therapy

Steady pressure to release a knot, then massage around it to treat the source.

  • Pre-Natal Massage

Safe, comfortable positioning that eases swelling, fatigue and weight-bearing joints.

  • Sports Therapy

Before, during or after an event, to keep tissue loose and injuries away.

  • Thai Massage

Two thousand years old. Compression and assisted stretching, sometimes called lazy man's yoga.

  • Swe-Thai

Thai forearm rolls and stretches blended into Western soft tissue treatment.

  • Tui Na

Rhythmic compression along the energy channels, especially good for stubborn joint pain.

  • Watsu

Warm-water bodywork in near weightlessness. Practiced here since 1993.
